School Nurse

Hello from Nurse Ann @ ARIS

Here is a little information about me and my family and why I became a nurse.  At the age of 5, my mom said that I told her that I wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. I wanted to help people feel better when they felt sick. I loved trying to take care of my older sisters and brothers when they were sick or hurt.

I am a 1984 graduate of Holtville High School. I attended Health/Science classes at Elmore County Technical Center in the 11th and 12th grade. I wanted to learn all I could about health and make sure that nursing was what I wanted to do. Right after graduating high school, I applied and attended Trenholm State Technical College in Montgomery. In November of 1985 I graduated the LPN program. After graduation and passing state boards, my grandmother told me about nursing jobs at the hospital in Tallassee. I started working at Community Hospital in fall of 1986. I work the Medical/Surgical floor for 2 ½ years then transferred to ICU/CCU area where I worked for 11 years.

While going to nursing school, I worked at Winn Dixie in Wetumpka where I met my Husband, Ted. We got married in 1990 and have been married going on 27 years. In 2000, we had a son, Tony. I stopped working at Community Hospital to be a stay at home Mom for our son but keep up requirements to keep my nursing license. Our son started attending First Baptist Church Child Development Center when he was 2 ½ years old.  A job came open at the CDC. I applied for the job and got the wonderful opportunity to teach and work with small children. The love for taking care of children began when our son was born and only got bigger when working with more children. They are truly a gift from God. In 2004, God blessed our family with another son, Timothy. Timothy was born on the day Hurricane Ivan came through Alabama.  I started back working at the CDC in fall of 2005 teaching 3year olds.  The love for children only grew more. In 2011, I was hired at as a school nurse for Elmore County Schools and have been at ARIS ever since. Both our boys, attend the Millbrook schools. Tony is a Senior this year at Stanhope Elmore and Timothy is a 7th grader at Millbrook Junior High. Go Mustangs!!!

I enjoy taking care of each and every child that is at ARIS!

If you have any questions about school health, please send me an e-mail. I will respond as soon as I can.
